Daniel Aviv Haim Sofer, the son of Jeannette and Gideon, and brother to Liraz, Lital, and Yonatan, was a joyful and radiant young man who touched everyone around him with kindness and positivity. Known for his natural ability to connect people and bring light into any space, Daniel always prioritized others before himself and devoted himself to helping those in need.
On April 15, 2024, Daniel enlisted in the Golani Brigade. He quickly became a beloved figure among his fellow soldiers and commanders, joining the IDF’s communications training course for battalion signal operators. His passion and determination were evident, once declaring, “I’m going to be the best signal operator the IDF has ever seen.” Despite his youth, Daniel displayed rare maturity, commitment, and ambition. On the day of his fall, Daniel and his partner Etty were celebrating one year together. The two often spent time at a special grassy spot overlooking the sea in Ashkelon—“Etty and Daniel’s Spot”—where they dreamed of a shared future.
On October 3, 2024 (Rosh Hashanah eve), during heavy combat in northern Israel, Daniel was killed in action. He was laid to rest in the Ashkelon military cemetery. Following his death, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
This project will honor Daniel’s legacy by encouraging positive action, emotional connection, and communal growth.
The spot where Daniel and Etty shared countless meaningful moments was a symbol of love, serenity, and dreams. Turning it into a place of memorial and inspiration is a natural continuation of Daniel’s spirit. It will serve as a site for reflection and unity, encouraging visitors to live with compassion, optimism, and connection—just as Daniel did.
Estimated Budget: ₪400,000 (₪230,000 already raised)
