In 2023, he enlisted in the IDF and joined the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion. During basic training, his physical and leadership abilities stood out. He scored perfectly on the Bar-Or physical fitness test and was named company outstanding soldier, although, in his modesty, he never told his parents. His commanders saw his leadership potential and recommended him for the squad commanders course.
When the Iron Swords War broke out on October 7, 2023, Achia was still in training. Although slated to attend the commanders course, he asked to be sent into Gaza to fight alongside his comrades and serve the nation during its time of crisis.
After days in staging areas, he was cleared to enter Gaza on November 30, 2023. He was appointed a team commander—testament to the trust and admiration of his officers. Achia took part in house-clearing operations in the Sajaiya neighborhood and confrontations with embedded terrorists.
On December 12, 2023, during fierce combat in Sajaiya, Achia’s unit entered a suspicious building. An RPG strike seriously wounded the platoon commander and others. In an emergency, Achia assumed command and volunteered to re-enter the house under heavy fire to evacuate the wounded. A second RPG was fired, killing him, the company commander, and the medic on the spot.
He was laid to rest at the Haifa Military Cemetery. After his death, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.
This project will establish a gym at the Kiryat Shmona Hesder Yeshiva in memory of Achia Daskal z”l. The gym will provide students with a structured and professional environment to improve their physical fitness and mental resilience as part of their preparation for IDF service.
The gym will not only support pre-army training but also promote values such as discipline, persistence, and inner strength. It will serve as part of the yeshiva’s daily routine, encouraging a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This project reflects Achia’s unique path—combining spiritual depth with physical dedication and striving for excellence in all areas.
The yeshiva was a central place in Achia’s life. It was where he studied Torah and prepared for military service. His commitment to physical fitness was rooted in a strong sense of mission. The gym will allow future students to follow his example—growing stronger physically and spiritually, just as he did.
Estimated Budget: ₪80,000 for gym equipment and professional outfitting
