Ido Ovadia Zano, son of Keren and Yossi, grew up in Yehud-Monosson. He was known for his vibrant personality, infectious optimism, and natural leadership. Ido brought joy wherever he went and had a remarkable ability to bring people together. A dedicated football fan of Hapoel Tel Aviv, he also loved surfing and being active outdoors.
Despite a medical condition, Ido insisted on serving in a combat unit and proudly joined the Givati Brigade, where he served as a combat medic in the 5th Support Company. He was deeply admired by his fellow soldiers and commanders for his professionalism, dedication, and caring nature.
On December 9, 2024, during intense fighting in Jabalia in northern Gaza, Ido was killed in action—on the very day he was supposed to return home. He and two other soldiers were killed by an anti-tank missile. Ido was laid to rest with full military honors in the military cemetery of Yehud.
“Ido’s House of Joy” will serve as a welcoming community center in Yehud for hosting joyful events for families in need—such as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, holiday celebrations, and community gatherings. It will offer a warm and dignified space for those who cannot afford to celebrate such milestones elsewhere.
The center will also house a foundation to provide scholarships to outstanding students and financial aid to struggling families, with an emphasis on educational and social empowerment for underserved populations. Supported by the Yehud-Monosson Municipality and the city’s Social Welfare Department, the project has already received official approval and is progressing toward implementation.
Ido was a person who radiated joy and compassion. He loved helping others—especially strangers—and was known for bringing people together through warmth and laughter. This center is a living tribute to his legacy of kindness, community, and shared celebration. It will be a space where joy is accessible to all, just as Ido would have wanted.
Estimated Budget: ₪350,000 (of which ₪120,000 has already been raised)
